Dentistry for Children

Your Child’s First Visit
It is recommended that your child see a dentist by age 2. On a young child, we start with a “look and see” exam and we will proceed with a cleaning if the child does well. Sometimes, introducing the office to a child during a parent’s dental cleaning allows them to see what will happen and explore our office. We often give “tours” and let children have a hands on experience so that they are not fearful. As your child matures, they will complete their cleanings and treatment on their own, kids often do better without mom or dad in the treatment rooms after trust is gained. Fluoride Fluoride is essential for proper tooth development and cavity prevention. Much of Oregon does not have fluoridated water and with many people drinking bottled water our children are not getting what they need to have strong teeth. Fluoridated bottled water is available at your local grocer. Dental Caries is the #1 childhood disease in Oregon and is preventable through routine care, appropriate fluoride use, and a healthy diet. Orthodontic Care Routine exams determine if your child needs a referral. A harmonious bite is essential to long term stability of the TMJ joint, muscles, and tooth structure; it’s about more than just a pretty smile. |

Act Fluoride Rinse and Spin Brushes are a great way to make brushing fun and aid in cavity prevention! |
Bad childhood dental experiences contribute to a parent’s anxiety when your own kid visits the dentist. Anxiety rubs off, so be positive, seek regular care to set a good example, and leave the dental talk to us. Family visits are a great way to support each other. |
We help to educate both the child and the parent so that dental care at home and in our office is positive. |
